Muslim Hands (MH) is an international relief and development NGO, established in 1993 with the objective of providing relief and emergency services and long term sustainable projects in an ethical, effective, efficient and transparent manner. MH works both directly and with partners in over 40 countries to carry out short and long-term projects in education, vocational training, emergency relief, shelter, safe water, and medical care.
Muslim Hands started operating since 2004, and are fully engaged in relief and development activities in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province of the country. All our works are fully approved, supported and assisted by the local government agencies on individual cases base.
The work of Muslim Hands in China involves: medical projects, orphan sponsorship scheme, university student sponsorship, water project, income generation projects, and earthquake emergency and relief activities.
The China Branch Office is based in Linxia city, the capital city of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu province. There are 4 full time paid staffs and 15 volunteers in our office.
Provision of medical care and addressing broader health issues has been one of Muslim Hands’ top priorities. We, in China branch office, have been running two major projects in this regard:
Cleft Lip and Palate Project
We have started Cleft lip and Palate Project in 2004, and since then we have carried out this project for seven times. 298 patients have been operated in total.
We have started Cataract Project in 2005, and since then we have carried out the project for seven times. 645 patients have been operated in total.
In China there are currently 227 sponsored students who are getting ￡24 per month. The sponsorship money is spent on child’s education which includes:
Clothing & Footwear (inc. school uniform)
Books & Stationary
Vocational Extra Teaching( started since 2008, we use summer and winter vocations to provide extra teaching facility for those of our orphans who are facing some difficulties in their studies during school time to help them to catch up with the level of their respective classes)
In China, we are currently sponsoring 72 university students, our office provide each student 15＆ per month. The money is distributed to the students to assist them to cover their university expenditure including books, foods and etc. This project had been started since 2007, and since then 88 university students have received our help, out of them 12 students had graduated from their universities and got employed. Some of them are working with us as volunteers now.
We have also carried out other projects with regards to Safe Water Scheme, Emergency Relief Activity and Income Generation Scheme.
