French-Chinese NGO Shanghai Young Bakers is looking for a professional, stable Social Enterprise Director to lead the strategic development of our social enterprise program and manage our commercial bakery operations.
The organisation – Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB)
Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB) is a charity program providing a fully-sponsored training in French bakery and pastry to marginalised Chinese youth aged 17 to 23, enabling them to find qualified jobs and lead independent lives after graduation.
Launched in February 2009, SYB’s one-year training combines intensive classes in both French and Chinese bakery with practical internships at 4&5-star hotels. After completing the program, the 30 students can then obtain employment opportunities in bakeries or hotels in Shanghai and all across China.
SYB relies on the financial support from various foundations and corporations. In order to increase its financial stability, since end 2011 SYB operates a social enterprise program, that offers public bakery classes, bread & pastry catering, and technical consulting services to individuals and companies wishing to contribute to the success and sustainability of the program. Today, 25% of our charity program’s financial needs are covered by the profits made by the social enterprise activities.
SYB is managed by a small and dynamic multicultural team, and operates under the governance of Chi Heng Foundation.
