  • A lawsuit on air pollution put on record in Shandong

Friends of Nature (FON) filed a lawsuit for air pollution against the Shandong Jingling Chemical Corporation Limited on the 19th of January. The lawsuit was put on record in the Intermediate People’s Court of Dongying city, Shandong Province, following the Civil Procedure Law, the new Environmental Protection Law and the Law on the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution which only came into effect this year.

FON learned from public reports that the emissions of air pollutants by the Shandong Jingling Chemical Corporation Limited continually exceeded the standards, and its air pollution improvement facilities were continually used in an abnormal way. Furthermore, the Corporation’s online monitoring equipment was not reliable and would not be transferred to third parties either. FON claims that the company’s deceitful behavior regarding their data seriously endangers the air quality and the public interest, and therefore the NGO has requested to the court that the corporation cease its excessive emissions of air pollution, eliminate any danger to the air quality and pay an air pollution improvement fee of about 10 million RMB.

FON has now received a court appearance notice and their case will be openly presented in the Intermediate People’s Court of Dongying, Shandong Province, at 8:40 on the 26th of February 2016.
