  • State Council puts forward the ‘Internet + Poverty Alleviation’ Proposal

To celebrate the second Chinese Poverty Alleviation Day and the 23rd International Day of the Eradication of Poverty, the 2015 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum, hosted by the State Council Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development, launched the ‘Internet + Poverty Alleviation’ Joint Action Proposal on October 16th in Beijing. The Proposal was initiated by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation and the Center for Informatization Study alongside several leading Chinese Internet companies including Alibaba Group, Tencent, JD, Suning Appliance, S.F. Express and NetEase.

“As one of the “Top 10 Well-matched Poverty Alleviation Projects” (精准扶贫十大工程), the “Poverty Alleviation through E-commerce” (电商扶贫) project has been included into the government’s poverty-alleviation policy system by the State Council Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development. The Forum also discussed the possibility of establishing an e-commerce poverty-alleviation alliance to rally support for the Joint Proposal.
